COQUILLAY
BIOGRAPHY

Jacques COQUILLAY was born on 3 June 1935. He was a student in the sculplure
section of l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Tours.
Diplôme national de sculpture 1958.
Student at l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Paris in Marcel Gimond's studio.
Diplôme supérieur d' Art plastique, 1960 (grade : good).
When Gimond died, Coquillay joined Hubert Yencesse and Raymond Corbin's studio.
Candidate in the Prix de Rome examinations 1961.
During the judging of the Prix de Rome he met Jean Carton, Raymond Martin and
Georges Hilbert with whom he became good friends.
He set up a young sculptors' group with the help of Belmondo and produced several group
exhibitions.
In 1976 he met Dunoyer de Segonzac, who encouraged him and
purchased his first bronzes.
He was elected vice-president of the Artistes Français in 1983.
Retrospective of the works of Coquillay at the Autumn Salon 1992.
Prix Jehan des Vignes-Rouges, Académie de Versailles, 1993.
Promoted to Official Navy Painter (1995).

Council of Viroflay ; "Buste d'Hippolyte Maze (Bust of Hippolytus Maze)" and
"Petite fille au mouton (Small girl with a sheep)" at the Taverny Town Hall ;
"Monument du Souvenir (Remembrance monument)" at the Yvelines Prefecture ;
"Marianne" for the Essarts Town Council (with the features of Catherine
Deneuve).
Monumental sculptures : "Naissance de Vénus (Birth of Venus)" for a fountain in
front of the Angers railway station and "Vagabondage" at Brissac, "La pomme
d'amour (The apple of love)" for the fountain in the civic square at
Marmande."La Vague (The Wave)" (1990) for the Rambouillet Secondary School
fountain ; "Vagabondage" (1991) for the priory garden at
Bourget-du-Lac ; "Le Châle (The shawl)" (1992) in a square at Sèvres ;
